No. 7 Pitt Win Streak Snapped

Georgia Tech

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 7 Pitt (25-3, 15-1 ACC) suffered its first loss of conference play on Friday night, falling to No. 4 Louisville (25-15, 25-21, 25-18) inside L&N Federal Credit Union Arena in Louisville, Ky. The Panthers’ winning streak has been halted at 18 matches, the fourth longest in program history.

“Congratulations to Louisville,” Head coach Dan Fisher said. “They were the better team in almost all categories tonight. I thought that we were poor on both sides of the net tonight, specifically defensively. We’re a much better defensive team than we showed tonight. We’ll look at the film and make corrections. I’m glad that this happened now and not in the NCAA Tournament. It gives us some time to get better before Georgia Tech while still controlling our own destiny for an ACC title.”

Pitt still controls its destiny in the fight for an ACC Championship. Should the Panthers defeat Georgia Tech and Boston College, they would clinch at least a share of the conference title. The first opportunity comes on Wednesday, Oct. 23 against No. 13 Georgia Tech at the Petersen Events Center. Tickets are available at pittsburghpanthers.com
