Nwokolo, Carter Named PNC Achievers of the Week

PITTSBURGH – Women’s volleyball’s Chiamaka Nwokolo and men’s soccer’s Cabral Carter were named this week’s PNC Achievers behind a perfect week from both programs.

Women’s volleyball’s Chiamaka Nwokolo helped No. 7 Pitt to sweeps over Virginia and NC State this past week while hitting a .592 and registering 18 kills, six blocks, five digs and two aces. Nwokolo hit a .600, with 10 kills, two digs and two aces in their sweep over Virginia on Wednesday.  Her 10 kills were a match high and season high.  In their sweep of NC State on Saturday, she recorded 8 kills, six blocks and three digs while hitting a .583. Nwokolo is hitting a .448 with 87 kills so far this season.

Men’s soccer’s Cabral Carter recorded back-to-back clean sheets this week for the 20th ranked Panthers, totaling nine saves over their two matches. Carter had a six-save performance in a scoreless draw against No. 9 Duke on Saturday evening, it was the sixth time this season that he has kept the opposition scoreless.  The sophomore’s six saves against No. 9 Duke were his second most this season, behind his eight saves in a 3-1 victory over Virginia Tech earlier this month. Earlier in the week, Cabral made all three saves as he and the Panther blanked Duquesne 2-0. Carter made a pivotal stop off of a corner kick to keep the contest scoreless early.
