Orange Set For First ACC Road Clash Against Wake Forest and Virginia Tech

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Syracuse volleyball team (6-6, 2-0 ACC) continues ACC play this weekend with a trip to Wake Forest (9-4, 1-1 ACC) and Virginia Tech (8-5, 1-1 ACC). The Orange will face the Demon Deacons on Friday, September 30th at 7 p.m. before heading north for a 1 p.m. meeting with the Hokies on Sunday, October 2nd

‘Cuse comes off a 2-0 start in conference play with wins against both Boston College and Duke last week. With the pair of victories under its belt, Syracuse is just one of four remaining undefeated squads in the ACC.

On the other side of the net, ‘Cuse faces a Wake Forest team that is coming off of a straight-set victory over Clemson. Senior Peyton Suess led the Demon Deacons with 14 kills in the match.

Syracuse holds a 10-1 series edge over Wake Forest. The Orange took the most recent meeting on Oct. 1st, 2021, with a final score of 3-1.

To round out the road trip, head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam’s squad will face a Virginia Tech team that has the reigning ACC Freshman of the Week on their roster. Hanna Borer, the Hokie’s setter, has recorded five double-doubles so far this season. In their most recent matchup, a loss to No. 13 Georgia Tech, Borer aided VT with 18 assists and six digs.

The Hokies lead the all-time series 8-7, but the Orange won their last clash on Oct. 3rd, 2021, in straight sets.

Polina Shemanova, the graduate outside hitter, looks to continue her quest to become Syracuse’s record holder in all-time career kills. Currently second on the list, Shemanova needs just 78 additional kills to reach the top spot.
