Cortland junior outside hitter Anna Pilkey (Ballston Spa), junior middle blocker Alexa Guedez (Mamaroneck/Rye Neck) and junior libero Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) have been selected as 2023 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III women’s volleyball honorable mention All-Americans. In addition, all three players were chosen as AVCA Region 3 first-team all-region honorees.
Pilkey played in 110 sets over 30 matches and led Cortland with 309 kills (2.8 per set). She ranked second on the team with 347 digs and 41 aces and also registered a .213 attack percentage, a .940 serve reception percentage and 30 blocks.
Guedez is an honorable mention All-American for the second straight year. This fall she played in 110 sets over 30 matches and led the Red Dragons with 113 blocks (1.03 per set) and a .372 attack percentage. She was third on the squad with 222 kills and also totaled 18 aces.
Martens appeared in 98 sets over 27 matches and led Cortland with 502 digs (5.1 per set) and a .970 serve reception percentage. She ranked third on the team with 35 aces.
Cortland finished the season with a 26-4 record. For the third straight year the Red Dragons won the SUNYAC regular-season title with a 9-0 record, won the SUNYAC tournament title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament to tie for 17th place nationally.
