Pitt Volleyball Notches ACC’s Second-Ever No. 1 National Ranking in AVCA Poll


CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Off to a 3-0 start this season, Pitt has earned the nation’s No. 1 ranking in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll, announced on Monday, which features three ACC teams among the top four. The Panthers are No. 1 for the first time in program history, becoming the second ACC team to earn a No. 1 national ranking in the history of the conference, joining Louisville, which was No. 1 for four straight polls from November 8-29, 2021.

Pitt received 29 first-place votes and 1,471 total points to claim the No. 1 spot, just ahead of fellow ACC member Stanford, which is 4-0 this season and earned 23 first-place votes and 1,462 points to earn the No. 2 ranking. The ACC has three of the nation’s top four teams, as Louisville earned a first-place vote and stood fourth in the poll with 1,284 points.

The ACC has six teams in the latest poll, with Georgia Tech at No. 15, Miami at No. 20 and Florida State at No. 21. After sweeping then-No. 2 Nebraska on Wednesday, SMU is the first team outside of the poll.

 

ACC Volleyball comes off a huge week with three wins over top-10 foes, as Miami went on the road to defeat then-No. 1 Texas on Saturday, SMU topped No. 2 Nebraska and Stanford knocked off then-No. 6 Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Georgia Tech also won at No. 14 BYU on Saturday, and Stanford picked up a victory at No. 24 Marquette on Wednesday.

ACC Volleyball has four games on the slate Tuesday, including SMU traveling to No. 18 Baylor. Pitt is back in action beginning Wednesday, as it starts a three-match West Coast road trip at No. 23 USC at 9 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network.
