In an effort to get to know our incoming athletes further, sports information student assistant Malala Pyle sat down with freshman outside hitter Jack Ebertin on media day and asked him a few questions.
Malala Pyle: Where are you from?
Jack Ebertin: Saratoga, California.
Malala: What’s your favorite thing about your hometown?
Jack: There are these beach volleyball courts right across the street from where I live. I go there a lot.
Malala: What’s your favorite sport that isn’t volleyball?
Jack: Basketball.
Malala: Breakfast, lunch, or dinner?
Jack: Breakfast, but for dinner.
Malala: Favorite meal in that category.
Jack: Any breakfast sandwich or breakfast burrito.
Malala: Where is your dream place to live?
Jack: Manhattan Beach.
Malala: Who is your volleyball or athlete hero?
Jack: I look up to my sister, Mollie, a lot. She played beach volleyball here. I always played with her a lot, watched her a lot. It’s cool to see her have success.
Malala: What is your favorite show or movie?
Jack: The Pursuit of Happiness (with Will Smith).
Malala: Do you have any hidden talents?
Jack: I can name every country in the world.
Malala: Why USC?
Jack: It’s a really good combination of athletics and academics. When I was being recruited, a lot of the guys would reach out to me, and they were super welcoming. It just felt like it would be a good culture.
Malala: Are you into podcasts or do you only listen to music?
Jack: I’m super into music.
Malala: Who was your number one artist on Spotify Wrapped?
Jack: Drake.
Malala: Who do you look up to the most and why?
Jack: I look up to all my family members. Being the youngest, looking up to all my siblings, there’s something that each of them do that I want to incorporate into my life.
Malala: What’s your best volleyball memory?
Jack: My junior year of high school, we won NorCal States. That was pretty fun. We had a really solid team and a good group of guys.
Malala: What’s been the best part of your day so far?
Jack: Watching Wesley Smith trying to celebrate in front of the camera.
Malala: What’s your favorite season during the year?
Jack: Winter — I’m a big Christmas guy, I love Christmas.
Malala: Any advice you’d give your past self?
Jack: Jump higher, hit harder.
Malala: NorCal or SoCal?
Jack: That’s tough. I think I’m a NorCal guy at heart. I want to live in…
