Razorbacks Snap CU Win Streak


FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  — The University of Colorado women’s volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season here Sunday in a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-16, 25-14) to Arkansas in the Arkansas Invitational.
 
The Buffaloes (7-1) snap a record 19-match non-conference win streak and remain winless against SEC schools since 2008. Arkansas (7-1) extends its 18-set win streak with a sixth-straight sweep since losing to Washington.
 
Colorado struggled to break through the Razorback blocks, hitting 12 of its 20 attack errors into the block resulting in a .059 hitting percentage. Paired with six service errors, seven reception errors and four block errors, the Buffs never found a rhythm in the match and only held a lead for two rallies in the first set.
 
Maya Tabron was CU’s main offensive contributor with 11 kills hitting .121. She also was a staple to the defense with a double-double that included 11 digs and two blocks. She was joined by Meegan Hart who had seven errorless kills and a .412 hitting percentage.
 
Alexia Kuehl continued her dominance at the net with six blocks, raising her average for the season closer to two per set. Brynna DeLuzio led the team in the backrow with 13 digs and mixed in at setter where she had six assists. Taylor Simpson had 18 assists in the set.
 
Arkansas dominated attacking with a .246 hitting percentage led by Taylor Head’s 13 kills hitting .344. Four Razorbacks recorded double-digit digs including setter Hannah Hogue with 24 assists and 14 digs. Three Arkansas players recorded five or more blocks.
 
The Buffaloes will look to recover quickly before heading into the first match of the Battle for the Golden Spike when CU takes on CSU Thursday at 7 p.m. in Moby Arena. Coach Jesse Mahoney will have his second chance at win No.100 as CU’s head coach Thursday against his former mentor Tom Hilbert.

Arkansas burst out of the gate with a 4-1 advantage. A pair of Tabron kills gave CU the lead at 6-5 with the Buffs out of their early slump. The Razorbacks went on a four-point run while holding Colorado to .056 hitting with three blocks to force a 13-10 lead.
