WACO, Texas — Kennedy Wade of Xavier University (La.) earned recognition as the RRAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week for Nov. 1-7. Mya Aguirre of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) was named the RRAC Setter of the Week, and Autumn Lopez of University of the Southwest (N.M.) garnered the RRAC Defender of the Week honor for the same dates. This is the 11th and final set of weekly awards for the 2021 RRAC volleyball season.
Wade posted her fourth kill-dig double-double of the season as the Gold Nuggets swept Louisiana Christian University, 3-0, on Friday. The sophomore outside hitter from Gainesville, Fla., compiled 12 kills and tied her season-high for digs with 16. Wade recorded a hitting percentage of .233 in the match. With the victory, Xavier clinched the top seed in the RRAC tournament and a share of the regular season conference title with Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas). The Gold Nuggets wrapped up the regular season at 10-1 in conference play and 11-6 overall.
Aguirre averaged 9.0 assists per set in a 1-1 week for the Rams. The sophomore setter from Harlingen, Texas, contributed 32 assists and 14 digs in HT’s 3-0 victory over USW. Aguirre had 54 total assists for the week, and she finished the season ranked 75th nationally with 7.4 assists per set. With the win over USW, HT catapulted into second in the RRAC West Division and the third spot in the RRAC tournament. The Rams were 8-4 in the conference and 10-9 on the regular season.
Lopez accounted for 39 digs in an 0-2 week for USW. The senior defensive specialist from San Antonio, Texas, averaged 5.6 digs per set including 23 in a 3-1 loss to RRAC co-champion OLLU. Lopez finished the year averaging 4.1 digs per set. USW holds the fourth seed in the RRAC tournament at 7-5 and 9-17.
