RRAC volleyball players of the week named for Oct. 3-9

WACO, Texas — Kennedy Wade of Xavier University (La.) repeated as the RRAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week with her selection for Oct. 3-9. Elaina Spriggins of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) was named RRAC Setter of the Week, and Xavier’s Kendall Mack earned RRAC Defender of the Week for the same dates. This is the seventh set of conference awards for the 2022 volleyball season.
Wade continued her strong play with a .396 hitting percentage and 4.6 kills per set in a two-match sweep of Texas A&M University-Texarkana. The junior outside hitter from Gainesville, Fla., broke .300 in hitting for the fourth time in five matches while tacking on three service aces, three blocks and 15 digs. Wade leads the RRAC in hitting percentage (.277) and kills (215) this season. Xavier improved to 15-2 overall and 10-0 in RRAC play while riding the second longest winning streak in program history at 14.
Spriggins averaged 6.8 assists per set in a 1-2 week for the Rams. The freshman setter from Dickinson, Texas, dished out 45 assists in a 3-2 win over University of the Southwest (N.M.), a day after HT lost to USW. Spriggins registered double-doubles in both matches against the Mustangs, including 24 assists and 12 digs in a 3-1 loss on Friday. She ranks fifth in the conference in assists per set (5.5). HT moved to 3-7 in conference results and 4-14 on the season.
Mack tied for the series high in blocks with seven in back-to-back matches against TAMUT. The junior middle blocker from Tyrone, Ga., has produced multiple blocks in each of the last seven matches for the Gold Nuggets. Mack led the Xavier defense that held the Eagles to .085 in hitting percentage, well below TAMUT’s season average (.166). She is currently fifth in the RRAC in blocks per set (0.91).
