Xavier’s Linda Mungai earned a second consecutive RRAC Defender of the Week award.

WACO, Texas — Sydney Murray of Xavier University (La.) claimed RRAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week recognition for Aug. 29-Sept. 4. Xavier’s Emi Riglioni was named RRAC Setter of the Week and her teammate, Linda Mungai, collected a second consecutive RRAC Defender of the Week honor. This is the second set of conference awards for the 2022 volleyball season.
Murray propelled the Gold Nuggets to a 2-0 week as hosts of the Big Easy Blastoff tournament. The freshman outside hitter from Indianapolis contributed 21 kills and 16 digs while registering a .222 hitting percentage in the event. Murray’s total of 86 kills this season are the most ever for a Xavier freshman through six matches. She is second in the RRAC with 3.7 kills per set overall. The Gold Nuggets are off to a 4-2 start this season.
Riglioni averaged 5.2 assists per set while sharing setting duties at the Big Easy event. The junior setter from Rome, Italy, accounted for 20 assists against the University of Mobile (Ala.) and four service aces against Louisiana Christian University, which was the most by a Xavier player this season and second best in her career. Riglioni is fifth in the RRAC with 5.0 assists per set on the season.
Mungai earned MVP honors at Xavier’s tournament with an event-leading 42 digs. The junior libero from Busto Arsizio, Italy, recorded 19 digs against LCU and 23 in the 3-1 win over Mobile. Mungai is sixth in the NAIA with 6.3 digs per set, and she leads the RRAC with 152 total digs.
