Rwanda, Egypt go top with second successive victory at African Zone Championships

The Rwanda women’s team and the Egypt men’s team built on their first victory of their respective Paralympic Games campaigns by recording their second successive triumph on Wednesday, beating the Kenyan sides in straight sets at the Teslim Balogum Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

The Rwandan women opened the day with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-17) win against Kenya, following up Tuesday’s win against hosts Nigeria. Later in the day, Kenya bounced back with their second win in the tournament, overcoming the home team with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-8) scoreline.

In men’s Group A matches, Egypt earned their second victory with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-8) defeat of Kenya, while Morocco claimed their first win in the tournament after beating Nigeria 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-14).

Algeria also recovered from their Day 2 loss, performing better against Libya to win 3-0 (25-15, 25-6, 25-15).

More action will take place as the the final day of the men’s and women’s preliminary round matches conclude on Thursday.

The Rwandan women will be opening and closing Day 4, as they Kenya at 10:00 local time (GMT+1) and Nigeria at 17:15.

Egypt will play the first of the two men’s Group A matches scheduled against hosts Nigeria at 10:15, while Morocco will take on Kenya at 17:00. The lone Group B match will be between Rwanda and Libya at 15:00.
