Rwanda, Kenya dispute women’s title; men’s semifinal cast set at African Zone Champs

Rwanda started and finished Thursday with two triumphs to lead the way into the women’s final against Kenya, while Egypt cruised to a sweep of Group A to advance in the men’s semifinals along with Algeria, Rwanda and Morocco

Three-time winners of the ParaVolley Africa Sitting Volleyball Championship, Rwanda, will be facing Kenya for the first time in the women’s final, which is scheduled on Saturday, February 3, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

The Rwandans won the last three editions of the women’s championship, unseating the Kenyans who won the inaugural edition. The Kenyans finished third in the last three editions.

In their respective campaigns for Paris Paralympic qualification in Lagos, Rwanda completed the preliminary round undefeated, winning 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-14) against Kenya in the opening match and 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-8) against hosts Nigeria in the fifth and final match of the day.

Meanwhile, Egypt kept its strong momentum and defeated Nigeria 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-10), advancing to the final four with an undefeated record in Group A. Morocco grabbed the second spot in the group and the semifinal spot with a 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-14, 25-17) victory over Kenya.

Rwanda topped Group B with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-13) triumph over Libya, advancing to the semifinals with Algeria.

Friday’s matches will feature the men’s classification match for fifth place between Kenya and Libya at 15:00 local time (GMT+1), followed by the semifinal matchups between Egypt and Algeria at 16:30, and Rwanda and Morocco at 18:00.
