PULLMAN, Wash. (December 17, 2024) – Washington State Volleyball had Katy Ryan, Sage Brustad and Emma Barbero all earn Academic All-Region honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Tuesday morning.
This is the third time Ryan has received the honor, also being recognized in 2022 and 2023, and it’s the second time for Brustad who previously earned the honor in 2023, This is the first CSC Academic recognition for Emma Barbero.
Ryan led the Cougars as the top offensive weapon on the team, culminating in All-WCC First Team and AVCA All-Region First Team selections, as well as a WCC All-Academic nod, while averaging 3.80 points and 3.34 kills per set to rank fifth- and sixth-highest in the conference, respectively. The Rathdrum, Idaho native capped the season hitting at a .261 clip with 374 kills, 92 total blocks, and 425.5 points, and ends her collegiate career with 1,198 career kills, 351 total blocks and 1,387 career points.
Brustad was also stellar on the offensive front, and was also an All-WCC First Team selection while averaging 3.64 points per set to finish eighth in the WCC, and 3.06 kills per set for ninth in the conference. With 42 service aces this season, her 0.38 aces per set was second-highest in the WCC, and she finished the year with 343 kills, 36 total blocks, and 407.5 points.
Barbero was consistent all year long in the serve and pass game as the team’s libero, and was named to the WCC All-Academic Team while finishing among the WCC leaders in digs, ranking sixth in both total digs with 430, and digs per set averaging 3.84. She was also second on the team with 31 service aces and had a 0.28 aces per set average.
