TUCSON, Ariz.—The Arizona Beach Volleyball team will host its annual red-blue scrimmage at Bear Down Beach Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. Fans will be able to pick up a schedule poster and get autographs from the team following the match.
The match is the first chance for fans to catch the nine returning Sand Cats in action before the regular season starts with the Cactus Classic Feb. 23-24. This season’s returners for the Wildcats are Meghan O’Meara, Elin Kaiser, Kylee Fitzsimmons, Annie Kost, Abby Russell, Maki Bispham, Miranda Erro, Hope Shannon and Grace Cook.
The team also features six highly rated freshman looking to make an impact right from the start. The freshman class includes Ashlyn Zilliken, Stephanie Rondon, Olivia McElroy, Jess Horwath, Brooke Boyko and Kate Phillips.
Head Coach Steve Walker enters his 11th season coaching the Wildcats in 2024. Walker’s career record is 180-82 (.687) and includes five seasons with 20 or more wins.
Arizona ended the 2023 season 21-12. The 21 wins are the third-most in a season for the Sand Cats and the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Wildcats have reached 20 wins in a season.
Next week’s Cactus Classic at Bear Down Beach will see the Wildcats host the University of San Francisco, CSU Bakersfield, UTEP and Boise St.
