Sand Devils Get Valuable Experience in Two Tournaments

TEMPE – Fall tournaments wrapped up over the weekend for Sun Devil Beach Volleyball as two pairs competed at the AVCA Pairs National Championship in Alabama and the rest of the team was at the Lopes Invitational at Grand Canyon.

The two pairs in Huntsville, Alabama were Daniella Kensinger and Ava Williamson as well as Taryn Ames and Lexi Sweeney. By playing the top pairs from schools all across the country, these Sand Devils had gained experience. Both ended up in the consolation bracket after Friday’s pool play, but they all bounced back, each pair going 3-0 on Saturday. The tournament ended on Sunday.

A large number of pairs played at the Lopes Invitational hosted by GCU on Saturday and Sunday. On the first day, Sun Devils won the gold and silver brackets for the 1s/2s division. Ava Haughy and Ava Kirunchyk won gold and Rylie Kael and Arden Besecker won silver. Additionally. Anya Pemberton and Kendall Whitmarsh won the gold bracket in the 5s/6s division. On Sunday, there were fewer pairs but ASU competed and gained more experience.

The last Sand Devil to play this fall is junior Samaya Morin who is in Thailand to compete in the 2203 FIVB U21 Beach World Championships with USA Volleyball.
