Shania Cromartie Joins Sun Devil Volleyball

TEMPE – Another great arm has joined the 2023 roster as junior outside hitter Shania Cromartie, a transfer from Mississippi State, has signed with Sun Devil Volleyball.

“We are thrilled that Shania is joining the team,” head coach JJ Van Niel said. “She is a perfect fit for Sun Devil Volleyball. Coming from the SEC, she has extensive experience as an outside hitter at an elite level, and she has great ball control that will add significant value to the team. Her personality will be fantastic for the team culture as well. We can’t wait to see her in Tempe!”

Cromartie, a native of Tallahassee, Florida, has spent three seasons at Mississippi State. The last two seasons, she has played in almost every match. Her first season, which was the 2020-21 spring COVID season, she did not play. In her career thus far, she has 525 kills, 436 digs, 30 aces and 48 blocks. Her career high in kills is 25, which she earned in 2021 at Florida, and she has two matches with 20-plus kills, 28 matches with double-digit kills and 17 double-doubles. Additionally, she has two SEC weekly honors to her name, as well as an honorable mention all-region in 2021.

Prior to college, Cromartie played at Leon High School and led them to a Class 6A state championship as a senior to cap four-straight state final four appearances. In her career, she tallied 1,229 kills, 1,038 digs and 141 aces. As a senior, was selected All-Big Bend Player of the Year and Florida Dairy Farmers Class 6A Player of the Year. She also earned Under Armour/AVCA and PrepVolleyball.com All-America honors following her outstanding senior season. For club, she played for Tallahassee Juniors Volleyball Club, helping her teams qualify for nationals in 2013, 2014 and 2018.

In addition to volleyball, Cromartie was a decorated track & field athlete at Leon High School and won the high jump state title as a junior and senior. She helped the 4x400m relay team set school records three-straight years from 2016-18 and finished fourth in the state in 2016.

Cromartie is the fourth transfer brought to the team under head coach Van Niel. The 2023 roster is currently up to 13.
