Soaring Eagles Drop Both Matches in First Day of Misericordia Invite

DALLAS, Pa. – Elmira men’s volleyball dropped both of their matches on Friday afternoon, falling in three sets to Rutgers-Newark and Nichols. Edwin Sosa ’25 led the team with 15 kills across both matches, with 10 coming vs. Nichols.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elmira dropped its opening set vs. Rutgers-Newark 25-15. Luke Jata ’27 led the team with three kills. The second set saw Elmira play the Scarlet Raiders much closer but fell by a final of 26-24. Max Cohen ’25 had a team-high two kills during the set. EC dropped its third set 25-20, with Jata again leading the Soaring Eagles in kills, finishing with four for a match total of eight.
  • The Soaring Eagles tallied four service aces during the match while giving up five to Rutgers-Newark. Jata led the team with two, while Cohen and Jordan Peiser ’24 had one each. Elmira finished with 24 set assists in the match, with Cohen totaling 18 assists and Alex Vega ’26 collecting the remaining six for the Soaring Eagles.
  • The Soaring Eagles fell in the opening set to Nichols College, 25-17. Sosa and Dylan Vargas ’27 finished with a team-high three kills in the first set. Elmira dropped the second set 25-18, with Sosa again finishing with three kills to lead…
