Soaring Eagles Drop Midweek Matchup vs. Nazareth

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira men’s volleyball hit the court inside Speidel Gymnasium for a Wednesday evening match against the Golden Flyers of Nazareth University. Despite 11 kills from Edwin Sosa ’25 and another six from Jordan Peiser ’24, the Soaring Eagles fell 3-0 to Nazareth.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Soaring Eagles dropped the first set by a final of 25-20. EC trailed 9-7 early in the set, but the Golden Flyers scored six of the following eight points to bring their lead to 15-9. From there, Elmira brought itself back into the set and trailed by 17-15. However, Nazareth scored four straight points and controlled the set from that point. Sosa and Luke Jata ’27 each tallied five kills during the set.
  • The Purple & Gold held an 8-7 lead to start the second set, but Nazareth went on a 6-2 run. Two streaks of four straight points and another of three consecutive points for the visitors allowed them to see out the set comfortably, coming out on top 15-19. Sosa and Peiser each had a pair of kills for the Soaring Eagles.
  • Elmira started the third set well, holding a 5-3 lead early on and then an 8-7 lead later in the round. Both teams traded points after that until the set was tied at 17. The Golden Flyers scored the following four points and never relinquished its lead, taking the final set 25-20. Peiser and Sosa notched four kills in the final set, while Dylan Vargas ’27 had two.
