EAST LANSING, Mich. – In a match that featured multiple lead changes in every set, Michigan State volleyball was defeated by No. 13-ranked Oregon, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-18) on Thursday night at the Breslin Student Events Center.
“We were inconsistent tonight,” said Michigan State head coach Leah Johnson. “We had some highlight moments and also some moments of bad volleyball. Nalani was excellent tonight and played well. Oregon is one of the top blocking teams in the country and they had our number tonight.”
MSU moves to 11-17 (4-13 B1G) while No. 13-ranked Oregon improves to 20-6 (12-5 B1G). It snaps Michigan State’s three-match winning streak. The Spartans are back in action at home on Saturday, November 23 when they welcome Maryland to East Lansing for a 1:00 PM match.
Sophomore outside hitter Karolina Staniszewska turned in her first double-double of the season on Thursday finishing with 10 kills and 10 digs. It’s the third career double-double for the Warsaw, Poland native. Junior outside hitter Akasha Anderson led the team with 11 kills.
Senior libero Nalani Iosia tallied her 12th match of the season with 20 or more digs finishing with 22 to lead all players. Iosia is now 29 digs away from 2,000 for her career. Splitting the assists were seniors Julia Bishop (15) and Rachel Muisenga (13). Sophomore middle blocker Zuzanna Kulig led MSU with three blocks.
