TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman College had its best showing yet in match four of the season Friday night, despite a three-set loss to Middle Georgia State University (25-13, 25-8, 25-14). The 35 team points are a season high.

Playing in Birthright Alumni Hall for the second time this week, Stillman forced 10 ties and three lead changes through the night. Due to an error on the opening serve, followed by an attack error, Stillman started the match up 2-0 for its first home lead of the season. Stillman hung close in the first set, trailing only by three, 13-10, when Middle Georgia went on a 15-3 run to close the set. Points were traded back-and-forth early in the second set, but MGA once again turned a three-point lead into a 15-2 run to win the second set.

The Tigers had three players with a positive attack percentage for the first time in the return season, as Aeraeonna Manuel hit .231, Khadeja Bryant hit .222 and TiAna Lawrence hit .167 to help the team avoid a negative percentage.

Middle Georgia was led by Allison Carter’s 18 kills, while Courtney Williamson had eight. Carter led the way for the Knights to secure the win, posting seven kills in the second set and eight in the third set. Ellison Johnson had 15 set assists, and Hannah Spalding had 14. Johnson posted 10 digs for a double-double and added four service aces.

Stillman (0-4, 0-4 SSAC) will continue its Southern States Athletic Conference slate on Saturday when Brewton-Parker College comes to town for a 1 p.m. match.
