Student-Athletes Participate in STHM Study Abroad Program


PHILADELPHIA – Twenty-two student-athletes representing four different varsity athletic programs are set to travel over 4,000 miles across the globe to a spend a week in Rome, Italy. The group is taking part in the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) study-abroad program while partnering with TU Rome. 
 
Each of the students that plan to be in attendance are enrolled in the Sport, Culture and Tourism in Italy course offered by the STHM program, with this trip serving as a key learning component of the course led by Associate Dean and Faculty Athletics Representative, Dr. Jeremy Jordan.

AD/Academics and Career Services) and his staff, Dr. Jeremy Jordan, our International Risk Management staff as well as the Temple University Rome faculty and staff for this tremendous opportunity for our student-athletes,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson.  “Studying abroad for full semesters can be challenging given the competition and training schedules for student-athletes, so providing these unique short-duration experiences for them is very important to our overall academic mission for our young men and women.”
 
With 22 student-athletes set to take off Friday (Feb. 25), this marks one of the largest groups that the STHM program has taken overseas. Student-Athletes include Jillian Allgood, Eliza David, Emily Kavanaugh and Roisin McGovern from women’s soccer; Ra’Von Bonner, Adam Klein, Wisdom Quarshie, George Reid, David Martin-Robinson, Jacoby Sharpe, Victor Stoffel, Kobe WilsonDaeSean Winston and Nate Wyatt from football; Maddie Arnold, Sydney Beck, Annie Judge, Kerrie Lorenz, Emma Nesbitt and Tali Popinko from field hockey; Miray Bolukbasi and Gem Grimshaw from women’s volleyball. 
 
The weekl-ong trip, which will span from Feb. 26 – Mar. 5, has a packed agenda including the opportunity to attend the Lazio vs. Napoli soccer game at the Olympic Stadium as well as tours of the Pantheon, Campo dei Fiori, the Vatican, Colosseum, and Campidoglio. 
 
In addition to sightseeing around Rome, the group will make the four-hour trek North to Florence to participate in a day tour that will include a visit to the academy of Fine Art to see Michelangelo’s famous sculpture, “David”.
