SEMIFINAL MATCHUP… After clinching the top seed in 2024 SUNYAC Women’s Volleyball Tournament, Cortland will face New Paltz in the semifinals on Friday evening.
Cortland is 18-13 against New Paltz in 31 matchups dating back to 2007, and undefeated in the last seven matches since 2019. From 2012 to 2018, the Hawks won eight straight meetings.
The teams will be meeting in the SUNYAC Tournament for the third time in the last four tournaments. Cortland swept New Paltz in the finals in 2023, and the Red Dragons also earned a sweep in the semifinals in 2021.
Including this season, the Red Dragons have now hosted the SUNYAC Tournament in each of the past four seasons. Cortland is looking for its fourth straight SUNYAC title under head coach Erin Glickert. The Red Dragons were the last team in the conference to win four consecutive titles, when they won five straight from 2003 to 2007.
New Paltz is in search of its fourth conference title all-time. The Hawks have won three previous titles under head coach Matt Giufre, in 2018, 2014, and 2009. New Paltz has been a constant in the conference tournament since Giufre took over the program, and has also reached the NCAA tournament six times.
LAST TIME WE MET… Cortland posted a team .391 attack percentage on its way to a 25-12, 25-10, 25-19 sweep of visiting New Paltz in a SUNYAC women’s volleyball match on October 18, 2024, the last time the times met.
Cortland finished the evening with 44 kills and 10 errors in 87 attempts. Alexa Guedez (Mamaroneck/Rye Neck) led the team with 10 kills and no errors in 14 attempts for a .714 attack percentage. Kyrah Wilber (Syracuse/Baldwinsville) ended with nine kills and a .238 attack…
