Manila, Philippines, May 25, 2024 – Zhanna Syroyeshkina posted a power-packed performance, scoring 23 points to help Kazakhstan win against Indonesia in straight sets 3-0, (25-17, 25-13, 25-22) in Pool B of 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women.
The Saturday afternoon’s match at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum marked the debuting Kazakh side’s second victory in the Manila meet.
Syroyeshkina’s massive haul made for an outstanding output of 19 attacks and 4 service winners. Sana Anarkulova contributed with another 9 markers, apart from her inspiring leadership as captain.
However, the task was never easy and breezy for the Kazakhs, given their opponents fierce efforts to come out fighting.
Indonesia vastly improved their level of play particularly in the third set, showing good coordination of those deployed on court. They played well in the backcourt, with setter Alrihania Risamara choosing well in transition. She could see that her hitters Putri Agustin and captain Bela Sabrina Agustina were getting all fired up, and made sure she activated them at the flanks.
Kazakhstan bounced back and maximized the good momentum they have already built, to take the match in straight sets.
The 23-year old Syroyeshkina shared “When we were getting a bit disorganized, our coach reminded us to just relax, and take the chance to reset our focus.”
Kristina Belova played quality minutes for the Kazakh side as her way of helping the team.
“The key to this victory was really teamwork, how we helped one another, knowing that we wanted to win so much after losing yesterday (to Vietnam),” she said.
Syroyeshkina and Belova belong to the newer generation of Kazakh players who are learning from more experienced members in the team.
“I want to help the much younger players we have, but I want to learn from my senior players like Sana Anarkulova and Irina Kuznetsova. I always watch how they move and guide the team.
“I am just happy to be here, and have this chance to play for Kazakhstan. It just makes me proud and honored to represent this flag on my chest,” Belova said.
Kazakhstan will face Hong Kong, China in Sunday’s 13:00 (GMT +8) match, while Indonesia will meet defending champions Vietnam in the earlier match set at 10:00 (GMT +8).
