Tech Opens at No. 20 in Preseason AVCA Top 25 – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

LEXINGTON, Ky. Georgia Tech volleyball has been ranked No. 20 in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Preseason Women’s Poll, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The Jackets have now been named in a preseason poll in three consecutive seasons after ending a 15-year drought two years ago. Reappearing in the top 25 for the first time since 2005 at No. 12 on Sept. 30, 2020, Tech has since been listed in 55 straight top 25 polls to date. The Yellow Jackets reached as high as No. 6 during that stretch for two consecutive weeks from Nov. 18-25 in the fall of 2020, the highest ranking for the White and Gold since 2003 and the third-best mark all time.

Tech comes in as one of three ACC teams inside the top 25. The Jackets are slated to face five opponents ranked in the preseason top 25 this season in No. 4 Louisville, No. 5 Pitt, No. 8 Penn State, No. 13 San Diego and No. 14 Ohio State. Each of the aforementioned teams reached the NCAA Tournament in 2022, highlighted by national title contenders Louisville and Final Four opponents in Pitt and San Diego. Familiar future opponents in Ohio State (Elite Eight) and Penn State (Sweet 16) also made deep runs in the postseason.

Headlining the White and Gold’s 13 returners from the 2022 campaign are a pair of preseason all-ACC selections in outside hitter Bianca Bertolino and setter Bella D’Amico. The incumbents will be joined by eight highly touted new Yellow Jackets, including three transfers and four freshmen, three of which are international.

Georgia Tech will next host an exhibition match against Auburn (Aug. 19) on The Flats. Following three straight road trips to open the regular season, the Jackets will make their official home debut hosting the Georgia Tech Classic. They’ll begin home competition with Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate against Georgia in McCamish Pavilion, presented by Delta (Sept. 15), then take on Howard (Sept. 16) and San Diego (Sept. 17) in O’Keefe Gymnasium.
