LEXINGTON, Ky. – Georgia Tech volleyball has been ranked No. 5 in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Women’s Poll for the second consecutive week, the organization announced on Monday. The back-to-back five spots tie the second highest ranking received by the Yellow Jackets in program history, joining the 2003 squad, who held the mark through four consecutive weeks.
Tech remains one of two ACC teams inside the top five and one of three in the top 10. The Jackets are slated to face four opponents ranked in the current top 10 this season in No. 4 Louisville, No. 7 Pitt, No. 8 Ohio State and No. 10 BYU. Each of the aforementioned teams reached the NCAA Tournament in 2021 as Louisville and Pitt each advanced to the Final Four while Ohio State and BYU both played into the Sweet 16. The Jackets eliminated the Buckeyes during their Elite Eight run.
The Jackets’ selection marks the fourth consecutive appearance in the AVCA’s top 10 dating back to the final rankings of the 2021 season. Georgia Tech has landed in the top 10 each week this season after being tabbed No. 8 at the end of the 2021 season, the highest finish at a season’s end in program history alongside 2003’s Elite Eight team.
Reappearing in the top 25 for the first time since 2005 at No. 12 on Sept. 30, 2020, Tech has since been listed in 41 straight top 25 polls to date. The Jackets’ back-to-back No. 5 rankings mark the highest for the White and Gold during that stretch.
Georgia Tech holds its historic ranking after running the table in the home-hosted GT Invitational. The White and Gold swept both Dayton and FIU to bookend their tournament play while also coming away with a 3-1 win over Arizona State. The Yellow Jackets claimed their own tournament crown as senior outside hitter Julia Bergmann was named MVP while sophomore outside hitter Bianca Bertolino and senior middle blocker Erin Moss joined Bergmann on the all-tournament team.
As a unit, Georgia Tech is currently top five in the ACC in hitting percentage (.293), blocks per set (2.41) and aces per set (1.82). Individually, Bergmann currently leads the nation in points per set (6.32) and is second in the country in kills per set (5.41).
Tech has won 63 of its last 75 matches dating back to 2019. The Yellow Jackets have also won 38 of their last 43 matches at home in O’Keefe Gymnasium.
