Athens, Tenn.- After playing Friday night, the schedule had the volleyball team return to the court Saturday morning for their next Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match and for Senior Day. This time the team faced the other team from Columbia, the Columbia College Koalas.

Through the first 22 points of the first set, neither team held a lead larger than three points. Columbia held the lead for the majority of those points but kills from Jenna Huppert, Gabby Harris, Marjorie Smith, Ariana Smith, and Haylie Peoples kept the margin small. With the scoreboard reading 12-10, the Koalas went on a run to take an 18-11 lead. Cierra Williams‘ service ace ended a 7-1 run which cut the deficit to one and made the score read 19-18. A 22-22 tie occurred shortly after and was broken by three straight Columbia points to give them the first set 25-22.

In the second set, the Lady Bulldogs raced out to a 6-1 lead and never really looked back. The team’s lead changed to 10-3 after an A. Smith kill and to 12-6 after an Aly Grace Lemons kill. Olivia Bolin knocked down a service ace which moved the score to 15-8 and while the Koalas moved the score to 17-14 at one point, TWU did not slow down. The team stayed ahead on the scoreboard, and Huppert’s kill ended the set with the team ahead 25-19, tying the match 1-1.

The third set saw kills by M. Smith, Harris, and Lemons help the team move ahead in the set 7-2. The visitors came back to cut the team’s lead down to four points with the scoreboard reading 12-8. Six straight points by the Lady Bulldogs, which included a Maggie Olson service ace, helped the team take a double-digit, 18-8 lead. The points kept coming for Tennessee Wesleyan, as a Madison Coffey service ace and kills by Huppert and A. Smith helped the team take a 2-1 lead with the 25-17 third set…
