STONY BROOK, NY — Maryland defeated Georgetown 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-14) in its first match of the Stony Brook Invitational behind a career-high performance from junior Laila Ricks.
After jumping out to a quick 15-8 lead, the Terps took the first set easily. Freshman Laila Ivey led Maryland in the set with four kills on seven total attacks and two blocks. Ivey finished the game with 11 kills.
In the second set, Maryland again created early separation en route to a 25-14 win. Ricks had two service aces and five kills in the set.
The Terps took the final set 25-14.
Razor-Sharp Ricks
- Ricks’ four service aces were a career-high. Before today, she had never recorded more than one in a game.
- Ricks finished with 10 kills, tying her career-high which she set on Sept. 10, 2021 against Quinnipiac.
- Ricks was also incredibly efficient, getting her 10 kills on just 12 attacks, good for a .750 hitting percentage.
- She also added a pair of blocks.
