Terps Fall To Arizona In Five Sets


SAN DIEGO, CA — The Terps fell to Arizona in a game that was competitive through all five sets (22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 17-25, 11-15), finishing the Aztec Classic 2-1. 

After dropping a back-and-forth first match, the Terps respond with a gutty 25-22 victory in set two. The Terps were down 20-18 but were fueled late by three consecutive Sam Csire kills. 

Maryland took the third set thanks to a 7-0 run and some impressive late play by Rainelle Jones

The Wildcats claimed the final two sets. 

Standout Performances

  • Laila Ivey made her first career start and finished with 11 kills. 
  • Anastasia Russ recorded her career-high in kills with nine. She also had a team-high seven blocks. 
  • Csire recorded a season-high 19 kills, finishing the weekend with 50. 
  • Jones also added 12 kills and six blocks. 

     

Up Next

  • The Terps will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia for the Cavalier Classic. There, they will face Mercer, East Carolina and host Virginia. The first match is set for Friday at 10 am against Mercer.
