CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — The Terps wrapped up their undefeated weekend in Virginia with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) victory over the Cavaliers in the 61st overall meeting between the two schools.
The two teams began the first set trading points until the Terps pulled ahead for good late thanks to a joint effort attack by the Maryland offense. Five different Terps recorded a pair of kills and Maryland also finished with six total blocks in the frame, getting four from Sydney Dowler.
After falling behind by as many as six points in the second set, the Terps showed their toughness and battled back to claim the frame, finishing the set on a 6-1 run. Anastasia Russ led the Terps with four kills in the set and Rainelle Jones added three of her own.
The third set was a back-and-forth affair with the Terps ultimately coming out on top.
This was Maryland’s first weekend sweep and first Saturday win of the season.
Notable Numbers
- Dowler’s seven total blocks tied her career-high. She also added 28 assists and three kills.
- The Terps held the Cavaliers to a .096 hitting percentage, it was just .016 through the first two sets.
- Maryland totaled 14 blocks, bringing their weekend total to 39.5.
- The Terps finished the weekend with 133 total kills. Sam Csire had a match-high 11 kills.
