Manama, Bahrain, July 29, 2024 – Thailand secured their place in the Top 8 round of the 15th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship following their hard-earned 3-2 (25-22, 25-27, 21-25, 25-17, 15-10) victory against hosts Bahrain at Isa Sport City Hall C on Monday.
After winning the opening set, the Thais fell behind after a rejuvenated home team raised their level as they bid to claim their first win. But Thailand remained resilient and edged their rivals in the fourth to force a tie-breaker, where they still lived up to expectations.
The victors took advantage of a deflated Bahrain side, which lost their lead in a match for the second straight night, in yet another tough five-setter.
Sorasak Phunsanong and Kiarttisak Seta had 22 and 21 points respectively to spearhead Thailand, which claimed second straight win in Pool A. Jassim Madan was once again the top player for Bahrain with 29 points in the loss. Ali Sultan added 17.
Despite the loss, the hosts earned a crucial point and must beat Australia on Tuesday in order to have any chance of claiming the other berth in the round of last 8 teams from Pool A.
