Thomas Robson joins Badger volleyball coaching staff

MADISON, Wis. – Head coach Kelly Sheffield has announced that Thomas Robson will join the Wisconsin volleyball team as the volunteer assistant coach.

“We’re excited to add Thomas to our Wisconsin staff for this upcoming season,” said Sheffield. “Having had Thomas work with our summer programs in the past, we’ve been able to see the qualities we value in our program including his work ethic, his willingness to learn, and his ability to connect and communicate with student-athletes. During the interview process this spring, Thomas has shown that coaching is his passion and we are excited to add another talented member to our program.”

Robson has served as an assistant women’s volleyball coach at Viterbo University the last three seasons. The V-Hawks were 89-18 during his tenure, advancing to one NAIA national semifinal appearance and two sweet 16 showings. Viterbo also won two North Star Athletic Association regular-season championships and three conference tournament titles. Robson assisted in the development of nine All-American, three regional players of the year, 10 all-region selections, five conference players of the year and 16 all-conference players.

He also spent two years as a club coach and tournament director for Xtreme Volleyball Club in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the staff of the reigning national champions,” said Robson. “When the position opened up, I knew it was a chance to learn from the best coaching staff and program in the country. I look to add fun, positive, and motivating energy while still making sure we are accomplishing the task at hand — winning another national championship.

“I not only look forward to growing as a coach under Head Coach Kelly Sheffield and also furthering my skill set working alongside Director of Scouting Annemarie Hickey, who has a drive and passion for changing the way we analyze the game of volleyball.”

Robson also played with the Viterbo men’s volleyball team for the last two years after spending his freshman season at Quincy University. With the V-Hawks, he was a two-time Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference libero of the year. Robson was a two-time all-conference selection and two-time team captain. He also served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for two years.
