Three Cortland Volleyball Players Named to CSC Academic All-District Team


Cortland senior defensive specialist/libero Mikenzie Martens (Carthage), senior outside hitter Anna Pilkey (Ballston Spa) and sophomore right side hitter Kira Pirrera (Hauppauge/Smithtown West) have been selected as 2024 Division III Women’s Volleyball Academic All-District honorees for District 3.
 
The all-district teams are selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). In Division III, District 3 encompasses all schools in New York State. Recipients must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and meet certain requirements in terms of contests competed in and athletic accomplishments.
 
Martens is an academic all-district selection for the third straight year. She also was a national third team Academic All-American last season. She is a physical education major who entered the fall semester with a 3.99 overall grade point average. Martens repeated as both an AVCA honorable mention All-American and the SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year after recording 517 digs, a .970 serve reception percentage and 39 aces in 102 sets over 32 matches.
 
Pilkey is a repeat academic all-district selection and a repeat AVCA honorable mention All-American. She recorded 279 kills, 44 aces, 231 digs and 32 blocks in 94 sets over 32 matches.
 
Pirrera earned academic all-district honors in her first year of eligibility for the award. She totaled 187 kills, 33 aces and 47 blocks in 95 sets over 32 matches.
 
Cortland finished the season with a 26-6 record. For the fourth straight year the Red Dragons won the SUNYAC regular-season title with a 9-0 record and won the SUNYAC tournament title. Cortland lost in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament to tie for 33rd place nationally.
