Three Cougars earn CSC Academic All-District honors

PULLMAN, Wash. 25th-ranked Washington State women’s volleyball had three student-athletes named to the 2022 College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District women’s volleyball team. Magda Jehlarova, Logann Golden and Katy Ryan, were each recognized as all-district performers for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Ryan and Logann earn CSC All-District honors for the first times in their career while the award is the second for Jehlarova who was also recognized as academic all-district in 2021.

Two-time AVCA All-American Magda Jehlarova, a senior middle blocker from Prerov, Czech Republic, is only four blocks shy of moving into second all-time at WSU with 574 total blocks in her career. She had a season-high 16 kills on only 21 swings (16-1-21, .714) in Sunday’s win over Colorado and is ranked 10th in the NCAA with 150 blocks on the season. Jehlarova boasts a 3.74 GPA as a senior management major and is a two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll recipient.

A Pac-12 All-Freshman team selection a season ago, Katy Ryan has nine matches with double-digit kills at right side for the Cougs. She had a season-best .588 hitting percentage (10-0-17) in Washington State’s home opener against Cal Baptist (Sept. 1) and had a season-high 15 kills against sixth-ranked Minnesota (Sept. 17). Ryan is an elementary education major at Washington State and earns the recognition for achieving a 3.63 GPA through her first year and a half in the classroom.

Defensive specialist Logann Golden appeared in the third set of Friday’s sweep over Utah and served through a 5-0 run early in the third set of the Cougs’ sweep over the Utes. She then tallied two more aces, bringing her season total to six in Sunday’s four-set win over Colorado. Golden, a sport management major and role model in the community, was recognized by Washington State’s Academic Services earlier this year as the women’s Student-Athlete of the Month for September.

All three WSU members on the women’s volleyball all-district team earn a spot on the CSC Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America teams will be announced in early December.
