Three from MSU Volleyball Earn CSC Academic All-District

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State volleyball placed three student-athletes on the Academic All-District volleyball team selected by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday. Graduate Zoe Nunez, senior Emma Monks and sophomore Julia Bishop all earned the distinction and now qualify for Academic All-America honors.

This is a first-time honor for all three Spartan student-athletes, who are the first Spartan volleyball players to be selected since Lauren Swartz in 2020-21. With the additions of Nunez, Monks and Bishop, Michigan State has placed 24 student-athletes on the Academic All-District volleyball team in program history.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve sporting at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 GPA scale. No student-athlete is eligible until they have completed one full calendar year at their current institution and are at least a sophomore academically and athletically. Graduate students are the lone exception if they are competing at a different institution than the one from which they earned their undergraduate degree.

Nunez has been a stabilizer for the Spartans in her lone year with the program, leading the team with 698 assists on 8.12 assists per set and ranking second on the team in digs with 219 despite missing a month of the season due to injury. Nunez has posted 10 double-doubles this season including five in MSU’s last six matches.

Monks is saving her best performances for last as the senior has post three consecutive matches of tying or exceeding her previous career-high in kills. Against Northwestern on No. 20, Monks had 13 kills to set a new career best. Monks leads the team with a .348 hitting percentage this season, which is tied for 9th best in program history for a single season. Defensively, Monks leads the team with 1.03 blocks per set.

Bishop filled in valiantly for Nunez while she was out and has 257 assists to her name this season.

Academic All-America selections will be announced at 12:00 p.m. ET on December 21.
