CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson middle hitters Kate Hansen and Indigo Young, as well as setter Katherine Sandt have been named Academic All-District selections, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced on Thursday. All three are earning the honor for the first time of their collegiate careers.
Hansen (Weatherford, Texas), who is majoring in sociology, appeared in all 31 matches during the 2024 campaign. She led the Tigers with 93 blocks, including 19 solo and 74 assisted, while also managing a team-high 0.83 blocks per set average. The sophomore recorded a career-high 11 kills at No. 23 Florida State with two aces, four solo blocks and two assisted for 18 total points. Stopping things at the net, she finished with a season-high seven blocks at No. 25 North Carolina.
Sandt, who is working towards an accounting degree with a 4.0 grade point average, started in 26 matches this season. The redshirt freshman recorded a season-high 63 assists at No. 17 Georgia Tech. She finished with eight double-doubles over the course of the year, including clocking a season-high 23 digs against Wake Forest to compliment her 37 assists. Sandt also tallied a team-high 735 assists and added 22 aces, including four at No. 25 North Carolina. The Western Springs, Illinois native is a 2023 ACC Honor Roll selection.
Young, who is working towards her master’s in athletic leadership at Clemson after graduating with a degree in public health from Charleston Southern, started all 31 matches in 2024. The Kennesaw, Georgia native concluded the season with a 0.82 blocks per set average and a career-high 89 blocks. She surpassed 1,000 career points with 7.5 points against No. 23 Florida State. The graduate transfer finished with a .611 hitting percentage and season-high 15.5 points off 12 kills and six blocks against Boston College.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and compete in 90 percent of the institution’s matches played OR must start at least 66 percent of the institution’s matches.
