TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman College came up short Saturday in a Southern States Athletic Conference battle with Brewton-Parker College. The visiting Barons pulled out a three-set win 25-11, 25-12 and 25-17 for their first victory of the season.
Stillman scored a season-high 40 points in the match and equaled its single-set high for kills this season with seven in the first set. Aeraeonna Manuel had three kills in the first set, her only three of the day. While Stillman fell behind 3-0 early, Manuel and others
Taylor Roland led Stillman with a career-high six kills and led the defense with six digs. The Tigers had 15 set assists, with Grace Fjeldstad securing a career-high eight.
Five of Stillman’s points came from service aces, a team high so far this season. Anniston Jones led Stillman with three service aces.
Stillman looked to gain momentum in the third set, after working a 14-9 lead, but BPC was able to hang on for the win.
Taylor Scarbrough led Brewton-Parker with 11 kills, and Jala Merriweather had eight. Katy Mathis had 26 set assists.
Stillman (0-5, 0-5 SSAC) will host its first non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. when Oakwood University comes to Birthright Alumni Hall. The match is a rescheduled match-up after the Sept. 1 season opener was postponed.
