Cherlin Antonio joins the Bears after standout campaigns with Syracuse and Iowa Western.
Rising Senior Led Syracuse In Points Per Set, Kills Per Set in 2023
BERKELEY – California volleyball has announced the addition of another transfer to its 2024 squad, welcoming OH/OPP Cherlin Antonio to the Golden Bears as a rising senior. Antonio played for Syracuse in 2023 after spending the 2021-22 seasons at Iowa Western, averaging a team-high 3.64 points per set and 3.25 kills per set for the Orange.
In her first two collegiate seasons with the Reivers, Antonio, a native of La Romana, Dominican Republic, collected 707 kills, including a 400-kill rookie campaign that also saw her earn NJCAA First-Team All-Region honors. That year, Iowa Western compiled a record of 29-4, earning an at-large bid to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament; in postseason play, Antonio posted 77 kills to claim a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
“Cherlin checks all the boxes we are looking for in a pin hitter, and we are very excited for her to join our team at Cal,” head coach Jen Malcom said. “She brings experience from playing in the ACC as well as for her home country of the Dominican Republic. Cherlin is a player who can create a lot of points with her arm while playing six rotations.”
Antonio will compete for the Dominican Republic with its U23 team at the Pan American Games this September. She previously played for the U18 National Team and led Mirador Volleyball Club to a Dominican League title in 2018-19.
