SEATTLE — Three more transfers have come aboard the Washington Beach Volleyball squad, as Head Coach Derek Olson continues to build the depth for the 2022-23 team and beyond. The newest Huskies include two transfers from Florida International University in Shannon Gormally and Kendall Mather, and one transfer from Pepperdine, Jacquelyn Strawn.

The three double the size of the incoming Husky class to six, joining with previously announced transfers Teagan DeFalco, Piper Monk-Heidrich, and Mary Sinclair.

Mather, a Cincinnati, Ohio native, played a starting role for the FIU squad that went 22-11 and finished the season ranked No. 16 by the AVCA. She was named Conference USA All-Freshman in 2022 with an overall record of 24-9, including 5-3 at the No. 4 spot and 19-6 at No. 5. Mather earned AVCA Top Flight honors in Flight 5 with her partner, Lisa Luini. They had wins over then-ranked No. 13 Georgia State,  No. 4 Loyola Marymount, No. 5 LSU, No. 4 Florida State while downing No. 10 FAU and No. 19 Stetson each twice.

Mather’s teammate at FIU, Gormally played both indoors and outdoors for the Panthers. She did not see action on the beach in 2022 and went 1-3 during the 2021 beach season. Indoors, the native of Union, Ky. was an outside hitter who appeared in 30 sets during the 2021 season and tallied 48 kills on a .224 attack percentage. She also played 27 sets in 2020 and 36 sets as a freshman in 2019.

Jacquelyn Strawn, from Laguna Beach, Calif., spent her freshman season redshirting on a talented Waves team in Malibu. She played club primarily for Tstreet Volleyball Club. Strawn attended the SCVA Junior Olympics four years in a row and earned bronze in the national division during her 15U run. She earned gold at the Volleyball Festival in Phoenix, Ariz. and earned bronze at the SVCA Las Vegas Classic Open Division in 2018. Strawn was a four-year starter for LHS Varsity Sand Volleyball, leading her team to League Championship titles and State Championship appearances every year. She also played two years indoor for her school, leading the squad to a CIF Division 3 final appearance in her sophomore campaign and earning All-County second team honors in her freshman season before focusing solely on the beach.
