The USA women opened the second round of Volleyball Nations League with a four-set win Tuesday over Canada, but then had two days off. Friday they’ll begin three matches in three days by playing Bulgaria, Poland and Türkiye.
Wednesday in Arlington, Texas, Bulgaria beat Korea in five sets and Türkiye beat Germany in four.
In Macao, China, the home team beat the Netherlands in four and Italy swept France.
There are five matches Thursday, two already completed at the time of this posting.
Italy got things going in Macao, China, with a sweep of the Dominican Republic and then Japan swept France. Later, Brazil was to play the Netherlands.
In Arlington, Korea plays Poland, Canada plays Germany and Serbia plays Türkiye.
Of note Wednesday, Melissa Vargas had 21 kills for Türkiye to go with two aces, Merlelin Nikolva of Bulgaria had 28 kills and two aces, and Korea’s So-Hwi Kang had 23 kills. In the loss to China, Elles Dambrink had 23 kills and an ace for the Netherlands.
