USA Volleyball CEO Jamie Davis considered for same role with USA Water Polo

USA Volleyball CEO Jamie Davis, who announced that he will leave that post after the Paris Olympics, is the leading candidate to fill the same role for USA Water Polo.

A USA Water Polo source confirmed for VolleyballMag that Davis is a strong favorite to take over that governing body. Chris Ramsey, the current CEO of USA Water Polo, announced in December that he will retire after the Olympics. Davis, in turn, announced that he is leaving his post this past March after seven years. Davis’ USA Volleyball contract runs through the end of 2024. Efforts to contact Davis were unsuccessful.

Davis has no prior relationship with water polo, but did not have one with volleyball, either, when he was hired in 2017 to replace Doug Beal. As the CEO of a national governing body, Davis brings experience dealing with the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, International Olympic Committee and the politics of international sports.

“Ramsey did play water polo in college, but he has always been perceived as an outsider among this country’s passionate supporters of water polo,” four-time USA Olympian Ryan Bailey told Swimming World. ” Will there be a backlash if another outsider — Jamie Davis has no prior experience with water polo — gets the top job overseeing the sport in America?

USA Volleyball has gone outside the sport for its new leader.

The national governing body announced Tuesday morning that Jamie Davis, sports media, marketing and business executive, as its new CEO of USA Volleyball.

“I love a challenge and I love growing organizations,” Davis said Wednesday morning from Los Angeles. “I’m very entrepreneurial. I’ve launched television networks in my career. So I think entrepreneurially. Which means being scrappy and making do with what you have and fighting to win at all costs.
