LEXINGTON, Ky. – The seven-time national champion USC beach volleyball team received the 2023-24 AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT for the fifth straight year, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Wednesday, July 17.

A record number of volleyball programs earned the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT. More than 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs qualified by maintaining a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale).

“We are pleased that the record-setting success of the 2023-24 season on the court has extended to the classroom, too, as evidenced by more programs earning the AVCA Team Academic Award than ever before,” says AVCA CEO Dr. Jaime Gordon. “This is a great example of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their full potential as both students and athletes.”

INTENT, which is in its first year of sponsoring the prestigious award, is a game-changing, digital platform that links student-athletes (along with military special ops veterans) to a powerful network of candidate-seeking employers. The tech, information, and internet company guides student-athletes and service members toward professional and personal success in life after sports and service.

The Women of Troy won an unprecedented fourth straight NCAA championship in 2024 to up the program’s total to seven all-time national titles. Top-ranked USC finished the season 37-5 overall and went 4-0 at the championship with an incredible 12-0 mark in individual court play. It was the 136th national title won by a USC team and the school’s 113th NCAA team championship. USC became the first women’s team in school history to win four consecutive national titles and brought home the 38th women’s national championship; the 28th NCAA crown won by the Women of Troy. Fifth-year head coach and AVCA National Coach of the Year Dain Blanton improved to 17-0 in NCAA duals and improved to 4-for-4 in national championship appearances.
