USI takes on a trio in the Chattanooga Classic


EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Volleyball (0-6, 0-0 OVC) takes a trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the Chattanooga Classic. The Screaming Eagles will battle Miami (OH) University (2-4) Friday at noon before dueling against the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (1-5) Friday at 6 p.m. USI rounds out the classic by facing Duquesne University (1-5) Saturday at 1 p.m. All game times are central.

Screaming Eagles Headlines:
Ohio Woes. University of Southern Indiana went 0-3 in the Kent State Invitational in Kent, Ohio last weekend. The Screaming Eagles fought hard against Oakland University, Kent State University, and Cornell University despite going a combined 1-9 in 10 sets.

Bednar Honored. It was announced that sophomore Abby Bednar landed herself on the Kent State Invitational All-Tournament team. Bednar finished the weekend with 22 kills, 26 digs, and three aces after playing in 10 sets.

Double Trouble. In USI’s 3-1 loss to Cornell, sophomore Abby Weber and junior Katherine Koch each earned double-doubles for the second time this season. This is the second time USI had two or more players notch double-doubles in the same match (L. Anderson-21 kills, 14 digs; Koch-44 assists, 15 digs; Weber-14 kills, 10 digs vs. Murray State). Weber finished the match with 16 kills and 10 digs while Koch nabbed 41 assists and 11 digs.

Season Leaders. Weber leads the Eagles with 62 kills and 69 points while junior Leah Anderson has 60 kills and 68.5 points. Koch has dominated the passing game, leading the team with 160 assists. Bednar has earned a team-high four aces while freshman Keira Moore has secured 81 digs.

OVC Leaders. USI has three players noted in the conference individual standings. Koch has the second most assists with 160 while being fourth in assists per set with 7.27. Sophomore Lauren O’Neill has put up 1.08 blocks per set, putting her fourth in the OVC. Moore ranks fourth in the conference with 3.68 digs per set and holds fifth most total digs with 81.
