PROVO, Utah – Utah Volleyball fell to the No. 12-ranked BYU Cougars in four sets (13-25, 25-23, 19-25, 16-25) on Wednesday night at Smith Fieldhouse. Rianne Vos posted the first double-double of her Ute career after leading the team with 10 kills and 13 digs.

Utah was stunned right out of the gates as BYU managed to score nine unanswered points in the first set, jumping out to an 11-3 lead. The momentum continued for BYU as it continued to extend the lead and ran away with a 25-13 first-set win. BYU hit at a .296 clip, but it was the Utes who struggled to find a groove and hit -.185 in the opening set.

After settling in, the Utes came out much stronger in the second set and played an extremely tight set from start to finish. Despite falling into a 4-0 hole, Utah battled back and chipped away at the lead to later tie the score 10-10. The Utes took a 15-12 lead at the media timeout after scoring four of five points, but out of the break, the Cougars scored three straight to tie the set.

The two teams went back and forth with the lead as Utah would wind up holding a 23-21 lead late after kills from Emrie Satuala and Rianne Vos. Out of back-to-back BYU timeouts, the Cougars evened the score 23-23, forcing Utah to call a timeout. Vos tooled a ball off the block to earn her fourth kill of the set before BYU sent a ball long to give the Utes a 25-23 win and even the match 1-1. Olsen posted five kills in the set to lead the team.
