LOGAN, Utah – Utah Volleyball fell to the Utah State Aggies on Wednesday night in three sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) at the Wayne Estes Center. Freshman Kamryn Gibadlo reached double-digit kills for the first time of her young Ute career.
The first set started off competitive as neither team held a lead more than two points until Utah State rattled off a 5-0 run to pull ahead 22-17. After a block from Viktoria Wahlgren and KJ Burgess, followed by an Aggie error, the Utes pulled within three points (20-23), but couldn’t complete the comeback as Utah State scored consecutive points to win the first set.
Although Utah State hit just .179, the Utes were limited to a .034 clip in the opening set. Kamryn Gibadlo recorded five kills to lead the team, but only one other Ute hitter managed to record a kill in the first set.
Utah used a 6-1 run in the second set to pull ahead 9-7 after trailing to start. Utah State managed to cut away at the lead and later took a 17-13, using a 5-1 run. Later trailing 19-15, Utah scored three in a row to force a timeout with the Aggie lead at just one point. The teams traded points out of the break until Utah used an attack error from the Aggies, followed by a block from Amelia Van Der Werff, to tie the set 21-21.
