Tempe, Ariz. – Utah Beach Volleyball began their final Pac-12 season on the road at the Pac-12 South Tournament weekend, taking on the #14 Washington Huskies and #19 Arizona Wildcats. Utah dropped their first match of the day to the Huskies, 5-0. The Utes would come back for their second match of the afternoon, falling to the Arizona Wildcats, 3-2, in their final battle of the day.
The pairing of Rylee Johnson and Bella Vezzani were the first match to finish against the Huskies, falling 21-17, 21-14. On the fourth court for Utah, the team of Marissa Koch and Kylie Pitzak were unable to get over the 15-point mark, dropping both sets to their opponents from Washington, 21-15, 21-15. Milan Ray and Sonja Wessel were the first court to finish in the second wave to take the courts, falling to Washington, 21-15, 21-13. The duo of Langley Griffin and Katie McAlister found a spark in the second set, after dropping the first, 21-12, and the second set 21-18. The Utes put up their toughest fight on the third court, coming from Chloe Narancich and Lauren Sayre, dropping the first set 21-16 and taking the second set to 23-21.
The second match of the day saw two three-set wins in favor of Utah. Johnson and Vezzani securing a comeback win in the first wave of matches, 20-22, 21-19, 15-12, on the second court for Utah. Closing out the match, Griffin and McAlister battled until the last point fell, taking their match in three sets, 19-21, 21-16, 15-13. The pairing of Koch and Pitzak were in it until the very end, dropping their match 22-20, 21-19. The team of Narancich and Sayre fell on the third court, 21-12, 21-12. The fifth court team of Ray and Wessel was the first to finish in the second wave to take the courts, falling 21-14, 21-15.
