VB Sets 2022 Schedule – University of Miami Athletics

CORAL GABLES, Fla. University of Miami head volleyball coach Jose “Keno” Gadara announced Tuesday the team’s schedule for the upcoming 2022 campaign.

The Hurricanes will play a competitive 29-match slate, with 11 contests on their home court at the James L. Knight Sports Complex.

“We are really pleased with the non-conference schedule we were able to put together. It presents the types of challenges we were looking for to help prepare our team for the rigors of ACC competition,” Gandara said. “We will face quality opponents both at home and on the road before kicking off ACC play at home in September. We have a great mix of young and experienced talented players who are extremely eager to begin the season in front of our loyal Miami fans.”

Miami’s first nine matches of the season are away from Coral Gables, as it is set to compete in three different multi-team events to begin the year. First, the Hurricanes head to Hempstead, N.Y., for the Hofstra Invitational, where they play Bryant (Aug. 26, 1 p.m.) and homestanding Hofstra (Aug 26, 7 p.m.) in a doubleheader, followed by Niagara (Aug. 27, 11 a.m.) the next day.

The following weekend, Miami heads to Las Vegas for its next three matches as part of the Rebel Challenge. First up is a contest against St. John’s (Sept. 2, 2 p.m.), followed by matches against Weber State (Sept. 3, 6 p.m.) and homestanding UNLV (Sept. 4, 1 p.m.).

Up next for the Hurricanes is a short trip to Orlando, Fla., for the UCF Invitational. Miami begins play against UIC (Sept. 9, 7 p.m.) and then plays homestanding UCF (Sept. 10, 7 p.m.), with a matchup versus UNC Wilmington (Sept. 11, 2:30 p.m.) rounding out the weekend.

Miami starts its home slate with the three-team Hurricane Invitational. It faces South Carolina (Sept. 16, 6 p.m.) and Oregon (Sept. 18, 12 p.m.) during the three-day event, with the Gamecocks and Ducks playing each other at 3 p.m. on the middle day.

The final 18 matches of the season for Miami all come in ACC competition, beginning with a home weekend versus 2021 NCAA semifinalist Louisville (Sept. 23, 7 p.m.) and Notre Dame (Sept. 25, 1 p.m.).

Gandara’s team then heads to the Tar Heel State, where it faces North Carolina (Sept. 30, 6 p.m.) in Chapel Hill, N.C., and NC State (Oct. 2, 1 p.m.) in Raleigh, N.C. A third straight road match is then set for Tallahassee, Fla., where the Hurricanes meet Florida State (Oct. 5, 8 p.m.) in a rivalry showdown.
