VIETNAM, CHINA, JAPAN, THAILAND ENTER AVC CUP FINAL FOUR

Pasig City, Philippines, August 27, 2022 – The quarterfinal phase of the 2022 AVC Cup for Women unfolded on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena, with China-Thailand, and Japan-Vietnam emerging as the Final Four match-ups.

Vietnam were first to enter the semifinals after taking the tiebreak, 3-2 (19-25, 25-17, 16-25, 25-18, 15-10) against Chinese Taipei.

Captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy’s timely heroics defined the moments that led to Vietnam’s victory in the decider. She deliverer a total of 25 points in the match, 9 of which were charted in the fifth set.

Titleholders China copped the second semis ticket of the day after winning in straight sets, 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-8) over Australia.

Wu Mengjie (17 points), Zhou Yetong (14 points), and Zhuang Yushan (13 points) provided the firepower with double-digit scores, to help propel the defending champions to the Final Four.

Japan were third to take their semis berth by winning 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 26-28, 25-16) against Iran. Yuki Nishikawa (18 points) and Miyuki Tanaka (13 points) proved to be Japan’s dynamic duo, as they tallied double-digit scores in the victory.

Thailand took the last semifinals slot after defeating hosts Philippines 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 25-9). Chatchu-on Moksri managed to score from 20 attacks and a service ace as the best scorer of the match.

The remaining teams will move to the 5th-8th semifinals bracket, likewise scheduled for Saturday, August 28.
