Vikings Push Winning Streak to Four, Beat Graceland

Lamoni, IA – The Grand View women’s volleyball team took to the court for another conference road matchup on Tuesday night as it faced off against Graceland University. The Vikings continued their recent winning ways and defeated the Yellowjackets in four sets with scores of 21-25, 25-15, 25-20, and 25-15.

Set 1: Grand View University 21 l Graceland University 25

The Vikings were able to start the first set on a fast note and went ahead 6-2 but saw their four-point lead erased as the Yellowjackets responded with a scoring run to jump in front, 6-7. Over the middle stages of the set Grand View was able to reclaim its four-point advantage at the 17-13 mark off a kill by Rylie Olson (SR/Osage, IA). A few moments later, with the score at 21-18, Graceland got in a groove and took over the set. The Yellowjackets rallied off seven straight points and went ahead in the match 1-0.

Set 2: Grand View University 25 l Graceland University 15

It was another fast start for Grand View in the second set as it went ahead 7-1 after a couple of Graceland errors and a pair of kills by Sydney Beasley (SO/Darlington, WI). The Yellowjackets eventually cut the Vikings lead down to one at 10-9, but Grand View responded with a 5-0 scoring run, which forced a timeout from Graceland. Out of the timeout, the Vikings continued to roll and stretched its lead to 19-10 after another scoring run that featured a pair of kills by Taylor Carey (SR/Waukee, IA). The Vikings closed out the set and evened the match by taking the five of the final six points.

Set 3: Grand View University 25 l Graceland University 20

The Vikings and Yellowjackets matched each other evenly to begin the third set as the two squads drew to a score of 9-9 in the early goings. Grand View gained a slight lead through the middle stages but got some breathing room by taking advantage of some errors by Graceland, which put the score at 23-18 and forced a Yellowjacket timeout. Just a couple of points later, Beasley secured the set for the Vikings by adding another kill to her total on the night.

Set 4: Grand View University 25 l Graceland University 15

In the fourth set, Grand View got a roll early and never looked back. The Vikings first scoring streak of the set put them up 7-2 and was capped by a service ace from Melodee Schulte (JR/Kaneohe, HI). A few moments later, the Vikings completed a 5-0 scoring run that increased their lead…
