PITTSBURGH – Men’s Soccer’s Arnau Vilamitjana and Volleyball’s Ryla Jones were named this week’s PNC Achievers of the Week.
Behind an 88th minute strike from graduate midfielder Arnau Vilamitjana, No. 4 Pitt stunned No. 7 North Carolina, 2-1, Saturday evening. Vilamitjana, a native of Girona, Spain, logged both of Pitt’s goals en route to his first brace as a Panther. Individually, Vilamitjana has now recorded seven points (three goals and an assist) over his last four matches. With Saturday’s victory, Pitt claimed sole possession of first place in the ACC with just two matches remaining.
Freshman Ryla Jones notched six kills hitting .857 against Cal and added four blocks in the sweep over Cal, helping Pitt hold the Golden Bears to a season low -.048 hitting percentage. She also recorded five kills and four blocks in three sets against No. 5 Stanford.
