Virginia Volleyball || Wells Adds Walter Spurlock as Cavaliers’ Volunteer Technical Coordinator

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia volleyball head coach Shannon Wells announced the addition of Walter Spurlock as the Cavaliers’ volunteer technical coordinator on Wednesday (Aug. 21).

As volunteer technical coordinator, Spurlock is responsible for supporting the program in areas of team video, scouting and technology integration.

“We are very excited to welcome Walter to our program,” said Wells. “He was born for this job and his enthusiasm for taking our technical coordinator position to a new level is unmatched. This position is pivotal for our program and his work allows our staff to train our student-athletes at a high level and prepare for the best teams in the country.”

Earlier this year, Spurlock earned his bachelor’s degree in data analytics from Eastern Mennonite University (Harrisonburg, Va.), where he also competed for two seasons on the Royals’ men’s volleyball team. As a pin hitter at EMU, he combined for 55 matches played and recorded more than 300 career kills. Prior to his playing stint at EMU, he was a member of the men’s program at King University (Bristol, Tenn.) from 2019-21, where he also served as an on-air commentator.

A native of Richmond, Virginia, Spurlock also served as a girls assistant coach at the Collegiate School from 2021-22.
